Review: Panda Panda Noodle House

DSC04056When we first got to Whitehorse at the end of March, we were staying in an AirBnb right downtown. We had a few days before we were getting into our sublet in Riverdale, so it was a good chance to really explore the main dining and shopping areas of Whitehorse.

One of the first restaurants we visited was Panda Panda Noodle House.  Part of our interest in trying this place was due to an article in the Yukon News: Noodle house offers affordable eats.

Affordability was a draw in this town where I have to realize I can’t eat at Vancouver prices anymore. Other lines from the article that stood out: “He does the barbecue pork especially. It’s made fresh every day.” and “They special order homemade-style noodles from Calgary.”

And my thoughts? Well, there’s a reason I’m already onto my second visit here.  DSC04049

We’ve tried four menu items (15, 16, 17, 21) and all have been tasty, quick and filling.  The spring roll was crunchy and inside was nice light veggies that hadn’t been ground into a paste. The wontons were huge, flavourful and numerous. The braised beef was tender and spiced. The barbecue pork was moist and smoky.  The broad noodles are delightfully chewy.


(I’d like to interject and say this is my first review, so I’m not sure if I’ll stick with a breakdown of items, but we’ll figure it out as I go along.)

Overall, it’s good, and not just “good for Whitehorse” as some people I’ve met will describe the restaurant options here. It’s legitimately good and for a reasonable price.
