Review: Epic Pizza

When looking for a place to live in Whitehorse, we had targeted Downtown and Riverdale. I’m someone who likes to walk everywhere, so those were the two neighbourhoods best suited for my walkable lifestyle.

The good news – we ended up finding a great place in Riverdale (that comes with a dog).  The bad news – it’s only a 9 month rental, so we’ll be looking again for January 1st. A few weeks in and we already love the area. In one direction, I can walk to trails and in the other, there’s a local grocery store. I love grocery shopping even more than visiting new restaurants. It’s not the biggest nor the best grocery store in town, but it’s my neighbourhood haunt.

Needless to say, we’ll be looking to rent or buy a place in this area come January.

So let me tell you about another “neighbourhood haunt” – Epic Pizza.

On our first visit to Whitehorse, we stumbled upon Bocelli’s and loved it immediately. But our landlords said they liked Epic Pizza just as much, so it shot to the top of my “must try” list.

They have a pretty epic menu with some… interesting options.

Being that it’s just the two of us, we opted for a 14″ pizza (and some salad I made from whatever I could find in the fridge). No, we did not go for The McGurk. But our choice wasn’t too traditional either: The Milos. “Ridiculous amounts of garlic” sold us on it.

So, how was it? Good! I think I’ll still give the edge to Bocelli’s, but you tend to overestimate your first love. Epic had a nice crust, fresh veggies that weren’t soggy from being over-cheesed or over-cooked and a good level of spice. I ate half a pizza without thinking twice about it.

IMG_5265The husband went and picked up the pizza, so I can’t judge the space, but I hear live music is often an option. Nice to have that so close to our current home. We’re avid hockey fans, so we wanted the pizza to go for some playoff action.

Likelihood of return visit: High – especially if I can convince the husband to try the McGurk. Also we have a vegetarian friend visiting soon and they have good sounding veggie options

Recommended dish: The Milos is all we tried, but if you like salty, spicy, garlic – go for it!
