I walk most places. I find it the most relaxing way to get anywhere. But it does limit how far away I get from my south Riverdale home.
I had the car out to go to Walmart, prepping for our first visitors to Whitehorse. (EDIT: Actually, a friend came for dinner a few weeks ago, she was in town primarily visiting/staying with other people.) I left the car in the Walmart parking lot, looking to find lunch somewhere in the vicinity.
I heard there was a good spot next to the Earls, but a quick check on Urbanspoon did not indicate anything else was in the small complex. I walked over anyways and there it was: Birch and Bear.
If you’re looking for a healthy meal with actual vegetables and grains, this is your place. They had quite the menu of smoothies as well. The facebook page describes it as a coffee shop, but it seems to me like a lot more than that. However, it’s only a brunch-lunch place with hours of 10am-4pm. (Apologies, I didn’t have my camera with me, just my iPhone.)
I had the Me-so-nori, a bowl full of veggies with a sesame sauce. I could have probably done with a bit more dressing but it was probably healthier their way!
Likelihood of return visit: My husband is a healthier guy than me, so this (and that daily soup) will appeal to him. Also they had quite the list of loose teas, which is definitely in my wheelhouse.
Recommended dish: Me-so-nori was the healthiest thing I’ve eaten in months.
Tripadvisor: Not listed in the 84 Restaurants in Whitehorse
Urbanspoon: Not listed there either!
