I’m a big Oilers fan. Did you know that about me? Well I am.
Since the cup run in 2006, it’s been a cold, dark (near) decade for fans of the team.
But light has emerged at the end of the tunnel – with new management, a new coach and Connor McDavid.
I joined up with local Oilers fans to watch the draft of this young man and as a bonus, I got to try another place in Whitehorse!
As I was still planning to go home and have some dinner after the draft, I opted for the Shrimp Tacos. The breaded prawns were super crunchy and everything else was light and fresh.
I can’t speak for the rest of the food, but a lot of it looked pretty good. It’s pub fare, but the menu also had some interesting options on it – like a Salmon Banh Mi??
Apparently the folks I met with have been frequenting the Gold Pan Saloon for years, so they must be doing something right.
It seems like a varied crowd of all ages, and while it was a bit loud for my liking, that’s probably because it was jammed full of patrons. It’s otherwise a welcoming, casual pub that isn’t trying to be fancy, but also isn’t sketchy. It’s a fine line. 🙂
Likelihood of return visit: Seems like a great place to watch a game, and there will be at least 82 of them this coming season. Goilers.
Recommended dish: I was told the burgers and pizza are good. I liked the tacos. (Note: They weren’t Mexican style, but rather Baja style with cabbage and flour tortillas)
