Dinner visit: The Wolf’s Den

It was already underway when a friend texted me about the Whitehorse Lions Club Internet and TV auction. But I couldn’t help but get right into it. The best deals were to be had in the first hour when none of us knew just how high the bidding would go.

That said, I was happy to pay face value for things because I knew the money was going to charity.

And so I bid. I bid on all sorts of things, but in the end, would only end up with two dining gift certificates. One was for The Wolf’s Den (which I wasn’t entirely sure of its location) and the other for the Wheelhouse (still to be used).

My dad was visiting, so we thought The Wolf’s Den with its schnitzels would be a good option for a meat and potatoes kind of guy.

Was it a success? Yes.

Am I disappointed? Yes.

Wait, what?

I’ll start with the disappointment first. You get the menu and the first page is…

So now, do I hope that the meal is good but that I won’t be able to have it again? Of course. A good meal once is still better than a bad meal.

And it was a good meal.

I will admit, most of my schnitzel experience is from working in a bar owned by an Austrian guy and his wife in Vancouver. So that’s what I expect.

Well I think this one was better.

But it wasn’t the highlight of the meal. For me, it was the spatzle. If you’re not familiar with spatzle, it’s just an egg noodle. But when done right, it has an amazing texture.  (Seen in the bottom left photo)

My dad, the aforementioned meat and potatoes guy, went for the health platter, which was schnitzel with an assortment of vegetables/salad. My husband opted for a pork medallion meal with a potato pancake. We started with escargot.

Everything was good but I think mine was the best. I think they might agree.

Anyways, get to the Wolf’s Den while you have the chance.

Likelihood of return visit: I’ll definitely try to get in another visit before they close
