Brunch Visit: Susan’s Place

Now that we’re living out south of town and I’m working full time, it’s less convenient for me to hit up all these restaurants still on my list.

However, this one wasn’t much trouble – it’s the closest restaurant to home!

Susan’s Place is a small restaurant/gas station on the Alaska Highway, but not like Tags! It’s an actual restaurant. I hear that Robbyn’s Grill used to be in the same space. It moved into town but when I went to visit, it had unfortunately already shut down.

We checked it out as a late breakfast, early lunch meal. (My husband had a light breakfast so he opted for a second breakfast and I had already done eggs, so I opted for lunch.)

I grabbed a cheese burger with onion rings. My husband had the benny pictured above.

I don’t want to toot my own horn (yes, I do!) but usually I pick the better meal.

Not so, in this case.

His benny had perfectly poached eggs, and a really dynamite hollandaise sauce. My burger and rings were good too – but lacked the “je ne sais quoi” of his meal.

The space was clean, the service was friendly and there was a decent flow of customers to indicate people are returning. The menu is small but, frankly, I wish more restaurants would stick to what they know and serve it.

And I’d like to point out that they served water with a lemon slice. That was much appreciated. I know some servers groan at the idea of an order of water. But I don’t do caffeine so that eliminates coffee, some tea, some pop – and rather than having to think/talk about the options – I opt for water. (Also, remember I haven’t had a job for much of this blog, so I do try to save money by not going in on the extras!)

Likelihood of return visit: We had a very pleasant visit and because of that, we would patronize this establishment again!
