I thought the tea house was closed for good. It had been many months since it appeared to be open, so I just assumed it was an experiment gone wrong. But I was wrong.
I had heard references to Swiss Bakery during my year in Whitehorse, but had no idea what it was.
My husband and I aren’t much for Valentine’s Day. We get each other cards, but that’s about it. That said, the red store shelves of Shoppers Drug Mart and diamond-laden commercials do tend to remind us to do something nice, but it’s never on the 14th, and there aren’t flowers or chocolates.
A few weeks ago I started working on my Ultimate List of Restaurants (and places to get food) in Whitehorse. I scoured lists, did searches and tried to remember every place that has been recommended to me.
I’ve mentioned before that the social rating sites (TripAdvisor, Yelp, Zomato) don’t do a great job of actually listing all the places to eat in town. So, I’m taking this on.
And it’s not just restaurants.
The plan was to take my dad to the hot springs and then go home for whatever meal we could make out of the fridge. We had dined out the night before and economically, I don’t like to do that two nights in a row.
But my dad insisted that he buy us a meal, as we had paid (by gift certificate) for the meal the day before.
And so, we thought – why not Café Balzam? It was on my list to try and we were already out there…
